I'm currently planning to upgrade our existing Win2k3 x32 to Win2k8 x Can this be done in one process or do I have to first upgrade the existing Win2k3 from x32 to x64, then upgrade to Win2k8?

This means you cannot upgrade a Windows installation from 32bit to 64bit or vice versa. More information can be found here.
