Region-based automation now is now dimmed as expected when Automation is turned off. This should work for you. But if you have Protools on this same computer you need to follow these steps if you get a error messages that saids DAE need 25Mb of memory. Now open Logic, go to Preferences-Audio and uncheck the enable box.

Quite logic open trash then drag and drop the DAE file back in the framework folder. It may ask you to Authenticate it. Just click on Authenticate. And it done.
